National Drug take back day

Date Posted: 10/19/2020

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day takes place Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020. Several collection sites around the nation will allow you to safely dispose of prescription drugs between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's office is participating in the DEA prescription drug take back initiative and will be available to take old prescription medications at the main office located at 1530 LA Hwy 90 West, Jennings, LA.

According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The Drug Enforcement Administration's Take Back Day provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction or overdose deaths.  PLEASE do not bring liquids or needles to be disposed of, only tablets or capsule medicines.
