Fugitive arrested

On Thursday May 21, 2020, Jeff Davis deputies patrolling observed a toddler alone in a yard on Jeff Davis Academy road. The deputy stopped and picked up the 1 year old toddler and approached a trailer at Lot #16 on Jeff Davis Academy road.
A female exited the trailer and asked if the deputy had seen her seven year old and three year old children that she said were watching the toddler.
Deputies found the other two children inside the trailer. Deputies arrested the mother, Melanie Micah Reed, 27, for an outstanding warrant and child abandonment.
Reed was transported to the parish jail for booking. The children were placed in custody of a grandmother.
