First month recap

Date Posted: 08/09/2024

We are excited to share the things we have been up to for the last 31 Days.  On July 1st Sheriff Miers took office and hit the ground running.  An effort to clean up and repair the existing facilities and equipment is well under way.  We have also been replacing damaged signage and adjusting personnel accommodations.  These projects have given a much-needed boost to morale and will help our office work as efficiently as possible.  Several employee incentives have been implemented with many more to come, these are part of a wider effort to retain deputies and attract more qualified candidates in the future.

On July 1st we were understaffed in several positions and our largest personnel deficits were in Patrol and Corrections.  Patrol was short by 5 deputies and Corrections was short by 7 deputies.  Today we are proud to say that we are fully staffed in those divisions, with a few Correction Officers transferring to Patrol.

Over the last few weeks, you have probably seen our deputies out in the community at various community events like the Jennings Stars and Stripes Celebration and multiple Back to School events.

Here are some of the more notable stats/events from the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office for July 1st through July 31st

  • Purchases
    • Through funds provided by a litter abatement grant from the State of Louisiana, a vehicle was purchased for the parish litter abatement team which is managed by the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office. This program is 100% funded by this grant.
  • Missing Person - On July 2nd at approximately 3:29 p.m. the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing person. After an extensive search with the assistance of deputies from nearly every division of the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office, Allen Parish SO, Jefferson Davis Fire District 5 and LeBleu Fire District the missing individual was located at approximately 7:07 p.m.
  • Shooting in Roanoke - On July 6th at approximately 5:42 p.m. the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired in Roanoke. Two arrests were made, and this case is being further investigated.
  • Conducted the 1st ever parish-wide meeting with all the Chiefs of Police to discuss mutual goals and objectives to better serve our community.
  • Completed an initial inspection of the jail and repaired all malfunctioning doors.
  • 1,153 calls handled by enforcement
  • 100 reports taken
  • 41 arrests
  • 78 persons booked into the jail

We are proud of our staff and everything we have accomplished together, and we will continue diligently working to complete our goals.  Thank you for the countless calls of support and we look forward to continuing to serve our community.
