Accidental shooting

Jeff Davis Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting last night around 8:30 pm at 10402 J. B. Farm Road, Jennings.  When deputies arrived they found a 14 year old male down in the residence with a gunshot wound to the neck. 

The victim was transported by Acadian ambulance for treatment.  The victim had surgery last night and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.  Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses that were at the scene of the incident. 

It appears to have been an accidental discharge that caused the injury.  The investigation is still ongoing at this time . 

It's a terrible accident that could have been prevented, according to Sheriff Ivy Woods.  A reminder that firearms should be unloaded and secured when not in use by responsible parties.
