Louis DeLaunay
In 1960 Louis Delaunay, after serving as a Deputy for 11 years, became the 7th Sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish. In the first year of his second term Sheriff Delaunay instituted a work release program that was later adopted by many Sheriffs in Louisiana. He would be the second Sheriff in Jefferson Davis Parish to stay in office for 5 consecutive terms totaling 20 years. Sheriff DeLaunay was the first Sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish from Lake Arthur, LA where he also served on the City Council. Sheriff Delaunay served in the Army during World War II and worked with for the Corps of Engineers during the surveying and construction of the Intracoastal Canal.
