Narcotics arrest

Jeff Davis Sheriff’s deputies were notified that a customer attempted to pass a counterfeit twenty dollar bill at the Sonic on Elton Drive in Jennings.  Around 9:30 last night deputies approached a vehicle at the Sonic and spoke with the occupant. 

Deputies were given the counterfeit bill by the occupant who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Deputies also smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  During the discussion with deputies, the occupant attempted to flee when a baggy was removed from his pants pocket.  A struggle ensued and the occupant was Tazed during his attempt to resist and escape.   

The occupant, Claude Junius McDowell, 37, of 938 McKinley street, Jennings was arrested and charged with Monetary instrument abuse and resisting an officer by force/violence. 

A k-9 was utilized and alerted to the presence of a narcotics odor. The search resulted in the discovery of a electronic scale and narcotics in the vehicle. 

Additional charges for possession of marijuana, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of CDS II with intent to distribute, Transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, possession of CDS V and possession of drug paraphernalia. McDowell is held in parish jail with no bond.
