Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle early this morning on Liberty cemetery road near Elton for a traffic offense. The driver, Nicholas Kade Holman, 34 of 408 North 4th Street, Kinder, LA was cited for speeding and deputies discovered he was driving under suspension.  During the stop, deputies became suspicious and requested consent to search, Holman agreed to allow deputies to search and admitted that he had dropped a bag of marijuana in the vehicle earlier.  A passenger, Courtland Wayne Lemelle Sr. 35, of 1709 Martin Luther King dr., Elton was removed from the vehicle and patted down. Deputies asked Lemelle to empty his pockets and discovered he had a small bag of methamphetamine.  Two other passengers, including a 5 year old juvenile were occupants in the vehicle.  A search of the car revealed the bag of marijuana Holman said he dropped in the car. 

Holman and Lemelle were arrested, the vehicle was towed and the two other passengers were released to the juvenile’s mother at Elton Police department. Nicholas Kade Holman was charged with driving under suspension, speeding, and possession of CDS I marijuana and released on citations.  Courtland Wayne Lemelle Sr. was booked into the parish jail for possession of CDS II methamphetamine and Illegal use of CDS in the presence of a juvenile.
