Mandatory Evacuation lifted; curfew still in effect

08/21/2016

Parish and City officials met this afternoon at 2:00 pm at the Lake Arthur City Hall to evaluate the situation in Lake Arthur. The water has dropped an inch today and a total of about 2 1/2 inches since Friday.
Sheriff Woods, the OEP director for Jefferson Davis Parish is lifting the mandatory evacuation at this time, but the curfew from dusk to dawn is still in effect. Authorities will continue to monitor the levees and any additional flooding from the forecasted rain showers.

Lake Arthur Police and Sheriff's deputies will be patrolling the area. There are restricted areas off limits on Grand avenue and Pleasant street for ALL persons except residents.

The Red Cross has volunteers working in the area providing food, water and necessities to residents.

Sheriff Woods wants to remind persons effected by the evacuation and residents who have flooding or damage to their home to go online and register for FEMA benefits.  FEMA can be contacted at 1-800-621-3362 or online at www.disasterassistance.gov
