  Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's office stopped a vehicle on I-10 this morning and recovered a large quantity of drugs.  Deputies made a traffic stop on I-10 Eastbound by Roanoke. During the stop deputies discovered the driver, a Texas man was traveling alone in a vehicle.  A search of the vehicle revealed 5 kilo's of cocaine and 31 lbs. of marijuana. Gary Lon Winbush, 61, of Long Meadow, Houston, Texas was arrested and charged with Improper lane use, Failure to signal, No driver's license, Possession of CDS I Marijuana with intent to distribute and Possession of CDS II Cocaine with intent to distribute. The Drug Enforcement Administration estimates value of drugs seized at $325,000.00.  Winbush was booked into parish jail with no bail.

Sheriff Woods is tough on drugs and praises his deputies for a job well done. He has provided training and equipment to the deputies, and increased the manpower assigned to rid the parish of illegal drugs and the crimes that go along with the drug trade.

Almost all property crimes are tracked back to the drug trade and drug abuse. Business and residential burglaries, vehicle burglaries, robberies, thefts, fraud and identity thefts can be traced to violators that use the money derived from the stolen items to purchase drugs.
