In 1913 Jefferson Davis Parish became a separate entity after separating from the Imperial Calcasieu Parish.  Joseph F. Fuselier, an Elton, Louisiana native, was the first Sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish.  Sheriff Fuselier was elected on December 17th, 1912 and took office on January 20th, 1913.  Sheriff Fuselier had a Chief Deputy, Marius Fuselier (younger brother), and four additional deputies.  One of his four deputies, Issac Fontenot, would become Sheriff following Sheriff Fuselier's one and only term.  The other three Deputies under Sheriff Fuselier were W.B. Clark, J.R. Mouton, and Dock Witherwax.
