FALL 2018 D.A.R.E. GRADUATIONS

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office (JDPSO) held the 2018 fall session D.A.R.E. graduations for fifth grade students of Lacassine Elementary School (LES), Welsh Elementary School (WES), Our Lady Immaculate (OLI), Fenton Elementary School (FES) and Elton Elementary School (EES).

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is an international substance abuse prevention program designed to deter the use of controlled drugs, gang membership and activity and violent behavior. D.A.R.E. is a police officer led series of classroom lessons, providing young people the opportunity to see officers in a helping role, rather than just an enforcement role. It also humanizes police, allowing young people to relate to officers as people, while also opening lines of communication between law enforcement and youth.

The 10-week, interactive in-school curriculum, “Keepin’ it Real,” also teaches students how to develope basic skills needed for safe and responsible life choices, being healthy, resisting negative peer pressure, staying bully free and avoiding violence.

LHS D.A.R.E. Graduation

The LHS D.A.R.E. Graduation ceremony began with the D.A.R.E. song as students filled the John Juneau Gymnasium. Mistress and Master of Ceremony Mandee Matt and Luke Natali led the event, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Layne Bergeaux, Caitlin McKay, Layla Mayo and Holly Chaisson and the prayer by Cassie Breaux and Josie Bruchhaus.

LHS Role Models Natalie Clemmons, Lexee Leger, Bryley Murray and Zoe Waguespack were recognized before Londyn Gaspard delivered the D.A.R.E. Mission and Kaylee Fontenot delivered the D.A.R.E. Vision. The History of D.A.R.E. was presented by Alivia Singletary, Isabella Ardoin, Rylee Gardiner and Emma Hargrave.

JDPSO Deputy Mika Miguez, with assistance from fifth grade teachers LaDonna Singletary and Lindsey Kinney, presented the D.A.R.E. graduation certificates before Miguez announced Rylee Gardiner, Kaylee Fontenot, Alivia Singletary and Cassiday Breaux as the classroom essay winners and Mandee Matt as the overall school essay winner.

WES D.A.R.E. Graduation

The WES D.A.R.E. Graduation ceremony began with the D.A.R.E. song, followed by an introduction by Mistress and Master of Ceremony Morgan Pole and Jordan Andrepont who led the event. The Pledge of Allegiance was then delivered by Rowyn Thomas and Bhreten Chaisson, followed by the prayer by Emily Davidson.

Welsh High School (WES) students Brilee Cox, Jadalen Edwards, Whitney Edwards, Hailey Holden, Kennedy Mallet and Ryland Pitre were recognized as the WES Role Models before Molly Fear delivered the D.A.R.E. Mission and Nicholas Cole delivered the D.A.R.E. Vision. The History of D.A.R.E. was presented by Baylor Cormier, Jack Arceneaux, Emma Chiasson and Sarah Achan.

OLI D.A.R.E. Graduation

The OLI D.A.R.E. Graduation ceremony began with an introduction by Mistress and Master of Ceremony Claire Mouton and Colson Mack, who led the event. The Pledge of Allegiance was then delivered by Madison Lavergne and Ben Soileau, followed by the prayer by Noa Headington, Greta Oustalet and Quade Trahan. OLI sixth grade student Gina McMillan sung the National Anthem.

OLI Role Models were Jennings High School (JHS) students Katie Babineaux, Sydnee Bown, Madeline Futch, Keelen McZeal, Caroline Vanhook and Trey Williams. They were recognized before Kobe Ardoin delivered the D.A.R.E. Mission and Adeline Oustalet delivered the D.A.R.E. Vision. The History of D.A.R.E. was presented by Kenzie Marshall, Kennedy Myers, Alice-Ann Dorr and Kullen Miller.

Closing prayer was delivered by Olivia Davis, Kaitlyn Reber and Ava Yates.

FES D.A.R.E. Graduation

The FES D.A.R.E. Graduation was led by Mistress and Master of Ceremony Alicya Thomas and Jace Savage, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Tiffany Alfred, Austin Fontenot and Kile Duncan and the prayer by Jamya Alfred, Erica Eason and MaKaylin Jackson.

Lacassine High School (LHS) students, Caitlin Moreau, Ashanti McMahon, Jhalissia McMahon and Samantha May, were recognized as the FES Role Models, before Shy’Heef Willis delivered the D.A.R.E. Mission, and Shyra McMahon delivered the D.A.R.E. Vision. The History of D.A.R.E. was presented by Tyra McMahon, Cassidy McCelland, Corey Stewart and Hunter Bertrand.

The EES D.A.R.E. Graduation ceremony was held in the school gymnasium and was led by Mistress and Master of Ceremony Alana Actlis and Keilan Crosby, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Derrian Boling and Jeremiah Hebert and the opening prayer by Isabel Carbalan.

Elton High School (EHS) students Alexander LeGros, Caroline Doise, Amiya Ross and Gabrielle Robinson were recognized as D.A.R.E. Role Models, before Ramsey Bruchhaus delivered the D.A.R.E. Mission, and Hayden Leonard delivered the D.A.R.E. Vision. The History of D.A.R.E. was presented by Jazelle Simon, Katie Manuel, Madelyn Fontenot and Quentin Martin.

JDPSO hosts D.A.R.E. Role Model Luncheon

As the 2018 D.A.R.E. fall graduation ceremonies came to an end, Sheriff Ivy Woods concluded the year by hosting an honorary luncheon for the parish Role Models for the fall season. The fall 2018 Role Models included students from Lacassine High School (LES) for Lacassine Elementary School (LES) and Fenton Elementary School (FES) fifth graders, Welsh High School (WHS) for Welsh Elementary School (WES) fifth graders, Jennings High School (JHS) for Our Lady Immaculate (OLI) fifth graders and Elton High School (EHS) for Elton Elementary School (EES) fifth graders.
